Bluetooth is one of those technologies which has always worked behind closed doors but effectively. In Samsung android phones, there is an option of Bluetooth tethering besides tethering through USB and Wi-Fi. It does the same job as them but it has its own advantages.

Unlike Wi-Fi where you need to turn the phone on on when you need to tether. It’s a whole lot more convenient since you can keep the phone in your pocket and just initiate the connection from your laptop or iPad. I don't have a iPhone but my Samsung s8+ has WiFi and Bluetooth. But out in the field I don't use a WiFi hotspot I use my phone data line and tether the smart controller via WiFi.
